From Deacon Tony Martucci

He's Alive!

"You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised. He is not here." (Mark 16:6)

We read this at the Easter Vigil. It is a major tenet of our Catholic faith. St. Paul tells us "If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain."(Corinthians 15:14) Each of us believe that Jesus is alive, but do we know it in our hearts? How do we understand it?

I remember how I saw it. Jesus rose from the dead. He is alive and has ascended into heaven with His Father. I did not see Him as alive and living in me, or accessible to me. Jesus was someone I could pray to "up there," but He was very distant. I did not realize then what it really means that Jesus is alive.

Think for a moment about George Washington crossing the Delaware River in 1777. We can go to the spot where he crossed into Trenton. We can see markers showing where he and his men landed and we can recall that famous event. However, it is all in the past, just a memory.

It is not like that with Jesus. When He visited the Apostles, He told them, "I am with you always, even to the end of the time." (Matt. 28:20) that means He is here with us today. If we cannot feel His presence, we need to search our own hearts to find out why. Perhaps we have become too entrenched in the world, busied ourselves too much with material things and spent too little time in prayer and meditation.

Jesus gave all that He had for you and for me. He only asks that we accept His gift of life and allow Him to be a part of our life. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me."(Rev. 3:20) Each time we attend Mass, we dine with Jesus. He is the "living Bread" that feeds us. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist we receive. It is not a lifeless memorial or representation of Him. We receive the true living Christ.

Do you know that you are the tabernacle of Christ when you receive Him in Communion? Do you take time after receiving to meditate on the great mystery of the Holy Eucharist? Look about you the next time you are in Church to see how many Catholics receive Communion and walk straight out the door, as though they had just taken a cracker. They do not take even a moment to say thank you to the God who has saved them and comes into their life. How it must wound the heart of Jesus to be taken so casually!

Please, listen to Him, especially in this Easter Season. Spend some time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Realize that Jesus is alive and present there. Invite Him to come into your life and bring Him into your home. You will be blessed beyond your wildest imagination when the King of Kings becomes your guest.

May you experience the joy of the Risen Christ this Easter.

My Prayer by Joe Vella, Sr.

Author of creation I am grateful for the dawn,
Because of you I am able to meet the morn.
Thank you for including me in your divine plan.
A role for each of us to play since time began.

I am set apart because you are a kindly God,
Justice seeking as from Aaron’s rod.
Your kindness and patience is never ending.
Forgive me for being misguided and offending.

Restructure my errant attitude,
Replace it with oceans of gratitude
Permit me to be fruitful and of use
Rid my brain of obstacles and excuse.

Assist me to reassess and grasp your Word,
So that your call is distinctly heard.
Free my senses, enhance my intellect
That I may be among the elect.

Would your thoughts infuse into mine,
And our spirits eternally combine.
Let me not bleat or snivel at your appeal.
Rather your beauty and love reveal

Prayer of the Cursillista

Lord, help us to use our time, our talents, our lives for the building up of Your Kingdom. Instill courage into our initiatives, good judgment in our choice of the proper means, and that determination which assures success even in times of seeming failures.

Move us above all discourtesy, sensitivities and rivalries, which not only discourage and divide us, but lead us away from loving You and each other. Help each one strive for the gift of Your unselfish love that will embold us to prefer the more humble tasks and rejoice in the good done by others.

Lord, let all see Your attractive goodness marked on all our faces, Your warm accents in all our works and in our community, a unity and a holiness that proclaims Your living presence in our midst. Amen.

St. Paul, Patron of the Cursillo. Pray for us.
